This week on Match Point Canada we were thrilled to welcome the most well-known coach there is in Patrick Mouratoglou. The recently turned 50 year old Frenchman is of course recognized worldwide as helping Serena Williams reach 16 of the last 27 Grand Slam finals and add an impressive 10 majors to her near-record haul.
Mouratoglou has used this hiatus from professional tennis to try something new with his Ultimate Tennis Showdown event designed to attract new fans to the sport by offering a unique and innovative approach to tennis. Shorter matches, less time between points and momentum changing "cards" that can be used at the player's discretion are just some of the groundbreaking changes that UTS puts into practice.
Have a listen to the half hour interview where Mouratoglou explains the rationale behind this exciting venture, discusses Serena Williams's quest for the all-time Grand Slam record and his genuine excitement over Stefanos Tsitsipas and Coco Gauff - two young charges that he is also helping to develop.
Hope you enjoy!
