Canada's No. 1 player, Bianca Andreescu, was hard at work at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Monday preparing for her return to the WTA Tour at the Rogers Cup. Out with a shoulder injury since her opening round victory at the French Open, the 19 year old spent considerable time warming-up without her tennis racquet before going through the usual barrage of tennis drills. Tennis Canada trainer Virginie Tremblay worked on some hand-eye coordination exercises and footwork training with Andreescu before she proceeded to hit with Isade Juneau a regular hitting partner for the Canadian women.
While the power and variety in her game were evident in practice, it was also clear that Andreescu was tiring quickly in the mid-day heat on Centre Court and has not benefited from regular practice and match play these past few months. All reports indicate that her right shoulder is ready to go and she didn't seem to favour it whatsoever in her practice session under the watchful eye of coach Sylvain Bruneau. She now has a week before she is set for her opening round match which is scheduled for the evening session on Tuesday August 6th.
Here are some shots of her practice session today.
