How did Andy Murray celebrate breaking into the top 100 for the first time? According to The Times, with a text message home to mom.
"THE text message summed it up with the precision of a textbook Andy Murray forehand: “I did it Mum.” Murray, the 18-year-old Scot, has broken into the top 100 in men’s tennis, a massive step for him and, by its very nature, a colossal footprint in the annals of the British game."
But in true British fashion the writer didn't want to be overly optimistic, so he paired his praise of Murray's accomplishment with this snippet:
"CAUTIONARY TALE
Martin Lee, the world’s leading junior player in 1998, reached a career-high ranking of No 94 in March 2002. He was regarded as the finest young hope of his generation but injuries contrived to interrupt his progress. Still on the recovery trail at 27 years of age, and playing the domestic circuit in Britain, Lee is No 551 in the world and desperately trying to rediscover his former glories. As he will testify, success at a young age is no guarantee of future riches."
I'm pretty sure Murray is safe from that fate.
