Capriati Auctions Off Belongings

This is a little weird, but it is a Jennifer Capriati sighting and we don't get too many of those these days.

From Tennis.com: Capriati belongings being auctioned on ebay

Is Jennifer Capriati ready to make a comeback or just strapped for cash? She’s not quite ready for the courts at the moment, but she appears to be taking a stab at e-commerce, with cyber superstore eBay auctioning a variety of her possessions.

Capriati Speaks!

It's not good news, but it's nice to hear what's going on with Jennifer Capriati from the horse's mouth so to speak.  Four surgeries - wow.

From the Sun-Sentinel: Jennifer Capriati: I'm not retiring

After a long absence from the public spotlight, three-time Grand Slam champion Jennifer Capriati resurfaced at the Nasdaq-100 Open Thursday afternoon and said despite being out with wrist and shoulder injuries for the past 16 months she has no intentions of retiring.

Capriati revealed that she has had four surgeries - two on her right shoulder and two on her right wrist - since playing her last match in November 2004 at Philadelphia. She has been unable to practice and has set no timetable for a return to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.

Capriati Not Returning at Nasdaq After All

Finally some info straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak.  Congrats to Tennis Week for actually getting Jennifer Capriati to go on record with a few sentences.  No one else has been able to get anything out of her.

From Tennis Week: Continuing Rehab, Capriati Is Not Ready For Comeback

Martina Hingis’ convincing comeback has been the biggest story of this Australian Open and it’s been reported that the woman who conquered Hingis in consecutive Australian Open finals — her friend and occasional practice partner Jennifer Capriati — would launch her own return at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami in March. But the three-time Grand Slam champion said she is not ready to return to tournament tennis.

Responding to a Tennis Week request to confirm her comeback at the Nasdaq-100 Open, Capriati said today she has no plans to play Miami.

"It’s not true that I’m hitting and planning to play Miami," Capriati told Tennis Week...

While there is no definitive timetable for her return, the 29-year-old Capriati made it clear she is committed to an eventual comeback.

"I am still working on rehab and expect to return to tennis," Capriati said. "I have no plans on giving up!"

Capriati Injury Update

Charles Bricker has the latest on Jennifer Capriati's comeback from shoulder in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

"Jennifer Capriati is back on court at Saddlebrook and training after months of recovering from shoulder surgery, but she probably will not play in any of the few events left on the 2005 calendar.

She'll shoot for one warmup in Australia in January and then the Australian Open."

Capriati Comeback Delayed...Again

Jennifer Capriati today pulled out of the Generali Ladies tournament in Austria next month which was supposed to have been her comeback from shoulder surgery.  This is one lengthy injury rehab.  But I guess Monica Seles still has the current record.

The Latest Jennifer Capriati Comeback Date

Jennifer Capriati has entered the Generali Ladies tournament which starts on October 22 in Linz, Austria.  Of course she entered New Haven before the US Open too and then had to pull out when her recovery from shoulder surgery didn't progress as quickly as expected.  Hopefully this time her shoulder will cooperate.

Capriati Out of New Haven

Jennifer Capriati has pulled out of the Pilot Pen tournament in New Haven just before the U.S. Open, citing a slower than expected recovery from shoulder surgery.  All the articles on her pullout note the tournament advertising is going to have to change - right now they have huge billboards with Capriati's picture on them overlooking the highway.  And even though it's not official, this pretty much puts Capriati out of the U.S. Open and makes this a completely lost year as far as tennis is concerned for her.  When she finally does make it back I'll be interested to see if she's serious about a comeback or just looking to get in a few more matches before retiring.

Capriati Enters Pilot Pen

In the first sign of a Jennifer Capriati comeback from her January 28th shoulder surgery, Capriati has entered the Pilot Pen tournament that takes place the week before the U.S. Open.

The tournament director certainly sound happy to have her.  "She wants to play where she's comfortable, and it's a huge compliment to the Pilot Pen and the fans. No matter where Jennifer Capriati is in the rankings, she's one of the most beloved tennis players of all time. Anyone who's ever had to overcome obstacles in their lives identifies with her."

Of course entering the tournament is one thing - playing in it quite another.  Hopfully the rehab will progress as expected and she'll make it there.
